Schools Effectiveness and Achievement Monitoring Group
Description
Purpose:
An internal City of York Council body which provides a mechanism for members to monitor school performance in accordance with section 13A of the 1996 Education Act which requires local authorities to ensure high standards and fulfilment of potential through education and training in their area.
Meetings and reporting:
Meetings will be scheduled on a termly basis (three per year) and will have an identified focus (e.g. use of pupil premium or work with children in care or with SEND). Multi-Academy Trust CEOs will be invited to attend meetings on a rolling cycle to provide updates on their schools. Maintained school headteachers will be invited to present on themes.
In addition, half-termly reports will be produced and circulated to members of the Group, identifying schools who have undergone an inspection since the previous report and providing an overview of the gradings of all schools in the city. The report will include information relating to ParentView and any school improvement activity that is taking place.
Members will be invited to school / education related meetings and events to ensure they have network and discussion opportunities with education leaders (headteachers / CEOs), and receive relevant updates and information.
The Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education is an automatic member and Chairs the group.
