Declarations of Interest

At this point, Members are asked to declare any personal or prejudicial interests they may have in the business on this agenda.

Members were invited to declare at this point in the meeting any personal or prejudicial interests they might have in the business on the agenda.

 

Councillor Fraser declared a personal, non-prejudicial interest in item 5 (Equal Pay), as a member of the retired section of UNISON and a member of the retired section of Unite (TGWU / ACTS section)..

 

Councillor Scott declared a personal, non-prejudicial interest in item 5 (Equal Pay) as a member of UNITE and as a solicitor, although he was not handling any equal pay claims against the City of York Council or any other council.

Exclusion of Press and Public

To consider the exclusion of the press and public from the meeting during consideration of the following:

 

Agenda Item 5(Equal Pay         ) on the grounds that it contains information in respect of which a claim to legal professional privilege could be maintained in legal proceedings.  This information is classed as exempt under paragraph 5 of Schedule 12A to Section 100A of the Local Government Act 1972 (as revised by The Local Government (Access to Information) (Variation) Order 2006).

RESOLVED:That the press and public be excluded from the meeting during consideration of agenda item 5 (Equal Pay) on the grounds that it contains information in respect of which a claim to legal professional privilege could be maintained in legal proceedings.  This information is classed as exempt under paragraphs 4 and 5 of Schedule 12A to Section 100A of the Local Government Act 1972 (as revised by the Local Government (Access to Information) (Variation Order 2006).

To approve and sign the minutes of the meeting of the Staffing Matters and Urgency Committee held on 1 June 2009.

Minutes:

RESOLVED:That the minutes of the Staffing Matters and Urgency Committee meeting held on 1 June 2009 be approved and signed by the Chair as a correct record subject to Minute 1 being amended to read “Cllr Fraser declared a personal, non-prejudical interest in the business generally, as a member of the TGWU/ACTS Retired Members Section and the UNISON Retired Members Association”.

Public Participation

At this point in the meeting members of the public who have registered their wish to speak regarding an item on the agenda or an issue within the Committee’s remit can do so.  The deadline for registering is 5.00 pm on Tuesday, 8 September 2009.

Minutes:

It was reported that there had been no registrations to speak at the meeting under the Council’s Public Participation Scheme.

Equal Pay

This report provides an update on Equal Pay litigation.

Members received a report that provided an update on Equal Pay litigation. 

 

RESOLVED:That the recommendations contained within the report be approved subject to the agreed amendment to paragraph 6.1.

 

REASON:            To progress the conduct of the case.

 

Councillor Scott requested that his abstention from voting be recorded.
