Local democracy during coronavirus

During coronavirus, we've made some changes to how we're running council meetings. See our coronavirus updates for more information on meetings and decisions.

Glen Family Resource Centre

The concept of corporate parenting developed to ensure that local authorities rather than purely social services departments fulfilled their statutory responsibilities to promote the wellbeing of looked after children and maximise their life chances.  Named visitors from the council to City of York children’s homes play an important part of fulfilling that role.

The purpose is to visit the home and meet with staff to discuss their work and any difficulties they may be experiencing in maximising the life chances of children in their care.  To use their influence to contribute to identifying methods of overcoming those difficulties.

Meetings are held 4 times a year.  They usually last around 2 hours plus any follow up calls/enquiries.
