Links to Cycle Route Through Hospital Grounds - Proposed Traffic Signals at Bootham to Cater for Cyclist Crossing Movements

Purpose of report: Cyclists will benefit from a continuous cycle route from the existing Foss Islands Cycle Route, through York Hospital to Bootham. This scheme will provide a missing link in York's cycle network, and crucially, form part of the Haxby to Station route agreed with Cycling England as part of York becoming a Cycle City. Funding for this scheme has been allocated within the 08/09 Capital Programme. Therefore, the aim is to implement the scheme by the end of March 2009. The benefits of the improvements for cyclists would be seen immediately. This proposals would provide traffic signals at the Bootham junction with St. Mary's and The Drive, thereby greatly assisting cyclists crossing the busy A19 by prioritising cyclists' movements.

Members are asked to: Approve the proposals for implementation.
