In these dark times it's difficult to decide what is the best thing to do to support the brave City and inhabitants of Kharkiv in Ukraine.
No-one can be unaware of the on-going suffering of the Ukrainian people, but this northern city of Kharkiv are taking the brunt of the Russian aggression. I visited Ukraine last year, for the first time. I was made to feel welcome by local people, and could see they had a rich heritage, and the pride the people had in their identity - as a free nation.
However and whenever this war is resolved, the people of that city - however much of it is left standing - will need material, psychological, emotional and moral support from the international community. As York prides itself as a centre of tolerance and peace, I would hope that it would recognise the part that it can play in the rebirth of a fellow historical, and University city - Kharkiv
