River safety extra lighting and cctv

We the undersigned petition the council to To change the lighting by the river and add more cctv by the river banks

This petition is organized by Jane Reynolds, who lost her niece to the River Ouse in 2023, at the age of 16 year old.

The overall outcome of this petition is to have more CCTV cameras installed along the river bank and better lighting.

The lighting the rivers have at present are inadequate for the river rescue team and fire safety team to look onto the river due to the brightness reflecting.

When I took a walk down by the river with the river rescue team it was suggested the lighting would be more efficient if it was more of a warm light rather than the bright white to help identify persons in the river.

the CCTV does not need to be manned 24/7 this is for the family's to have some kind of closure.

When Leah entered the water we were unable to understand how or why. when we had the inquest it was stated by the judge that due too being unable to establish how she became in the water her death went down as accidental even though someone else was with her we are unable to see what occurred by the Peacock Cafe as the CCTV was not adequate by the rowing club and the lighting was poor. If this had better CCTV and lighting we may have been able to get some closure.

Like many other family's who have been through the same all we want is a little money spent on this for the safety of our children and young adults. You can see all comments on the change.org site were my petition is, we have over 1200 signatures and this has also gone to parliament with Racheal Maskell. I will continue my fight for our family and others like me.
