Improve the daily gridlock around York Hospital and Wigginton Road

We the undersigned petition the council to Alleviate the daily weekday gridlock along Wigginton Road caused mainly by vehicles trying to get into the full hospital multi-storey car park. This problem has been going on for YEARS and it has got to the point where gridlock and long delays are a regular occurrence. Thousands of people are affected every weekday - with late hospital appointments, delayed ambulances, delayed bus journeys, queuing and gridlocked traffic with often 20 to 30 minutes taken just to pass through the hospital entrance mini roundabout - IN BOTH DIRECTIONS.

The problem is not just to do with limited hospital parking spaces - but it is also due to the stupid road layout and lane width restriction on Wigginton Road, particularly when approaching the hospital entrance mini roundabout heading into town. Wigginton Road heading out of town has TWO lanes as you approach the hospital entrance mini roundabout (left turn and straight on). HOWEVER - Wigginton Road heading INTO town has only ONE lane as you approach the hospital entrance mini roundabout (used for BOTH aright turn AND straight on). This single lane gets blocked for straight on traffic by vehicles not able to turn right - as the hospital car park is full or very slow entry.

There could be a simple and low-cost solution to this arrangement = i.e. make Wigginton Road heading into town into TWO lanes as you approach AND pass through the hospital entrance mini roundabout (i.e. two lanes = one for straight on and one for turn right).
This can quite easily be done by -

1) Remove the short stay parking places on the left of the single lane. Then turn this strip into an additional road running lane.
2) Remove that stupid "bump out from the left - approaching and at the mini roundabout" - to allow the new created left hand running lane to pass straight through the mini roundabout ( but still be a "give way")
3) divert the LH cycle track to pass safely by the junction - along the pavement.
4) add additional road signs and road surface markings to indicate the correct use of each lane.

This will obviously not stop the hospital queue, BUT it could allow more vehicles to continue straight on and not be blocked by queuing right turning vehicles.
