Remove small island at the end of James Street and Lawrence Street to allow two lanes and relieve congestion.
A1079 / Lawrence Street is one of the main routes into York from East Yorkshire.
For reference purposes:
A1079 First Lane ------> York
Second Lane --->
SMALL ISLAND
<-- Third Lane
<-- Forth Lane
This island blocks traffic wanting to use the second lane if the first lane is congested and in turn blocks James Street and Lawrence Street.
If the small island was removed and the traffic light was
relocated to the side of the road with an over hang if needed this
would allow the following:
- Traffic coming down Lawrence Street towards York to divert into
the second lane if the first lane was congested and not mount the
island like some do.
- If the first lane is congested, it would allow people from James
Street to filter into the second lane, rather than be stuck at a
green light.
The aim is to keep traffic flowing, as no one wants to be stuck at a green light and can not go anywhere.
It would also help long vehicles and buses to be able to turn onto Lawrence Street and if you look into the records you will see how many times that traffic light has been hit.
If there was ever an issue of a turning circle then the traffic at Lawrence Street turning left into James Street could be pushed a little further back, but that's for an assessor to look at.
Once it is two lane access, then you have the option of extending the two lanes further up Lawrence Street and having left as straight on and right as straight on or right.
