Local Improvement Schemes

This is an opportunity for discussion on the provisional list of schemes for 2011-12.

Minutes:

5.1          Cllr Keith Hyman invited residents to make any comments on the provisional list of ward committee schemes for 2011-12 published in the January Your Ward. 

5.2          No comments were noted.

5.3          The following scheme were formally agreed subject to them being legal, feasible and within budget.

Funding to continue the Community Rangers patrols in the ward.  This is currently provided by Group Response who carry out evening patrols at 'hotspots' identified by the ward team and residents.

H&-11-04

A grant to New Earswick Community Association to continue providing financial support to the New Earswick Gardening Scheme.  The scheme provides gardeners to older and/or disabled people who have difficulty keeping their gardens tidy

A grant to Huntington Parish Council to develop the community gardening scheme which was started in 2006.  The scheme is for use by those members of the community who, for whatever reason, are unable to manage the maintenance of their garden.

A grant to Huntington Community Centre for a rolling programme of improvements and renovation to keep the building up to date.

A contribution to the ongoing maintenance of the off road cycle network within the ward.

Opportunities for Young People

 

 

H&-11-10

A grant to Active York for the 'Fund for the Gifted' scheme that helps talented young sports people and their families with the cost of training, travel and equipment.

A grant to York Youth Council towards the set up of a city centre youth café where young people can hang out and find out about issues affecting them.

A grant to Street Sports York to fund ten two hour sessions at venues in the ward such as a mobile skate park and a climbing tower.

A grant to York Playspace to support the continued work at the 68 Centre Chill Out Zone.  The zone provides the children and young people with a much needed distraction and activities once a week.  Many children from the ward use this facility.

Funding for ten mobile play sessions at various locations in the ward over the summer.  The sessions run by York Playspace are aimed at children aged 5-13 years.

A grant to New Earswick Tennis Club to provide coaching sessions for their junior members and to contribute towards the purchase of tennis balls.

A grant to New Earswick Community Association to continue financial support to the New Earswick Junior Club.  The club is open year round to New Earswick children aged 8-11 years.

A grant to New Earswick Community Association to continue financial support for the New Earswick summer scheme for 8-17 year olds.  The scheme offers many activities over the summer holidays including trips away from York

A grant to Newy Youth Centre (NYC) to fund the installation of a new kitchen in the youth centre.  This would enable the young people to hold community events and they would also be able to learn basic hygiene, budgeting and cooking skills to help build their confidence and life skills.

A grant to Momentum on Two Wheels, a project that offers young people the experience of riding a motorcycle in a safe environment.  Funding is needed to buy a new bike trailor and staff costs.

A grant to Older Citizens Advocacy York (OCAY) to support the ongoing work of OCAY and to enable them to continue offering outreach sessions at venues in the ward.

A grant to Age Concern York to fund room hire for sessions of their Simple Nail Cutting Service for elderly people which would be provided at community venues throughout the ward.
