  1. Police

PCSO Richard Dalby gave a brief ward update;

·        Between the 13th & 16th October it will be ‘Not in your Neighbourhood Week’.  This is week of visible joined up working alongside various other agencies and a the Policing Team visiting more people during the week.  This will include coffee mornings at sheltered housing and crime prevention surveys etc.

·        There will also be street signs going up where there is Neighbourhood Watch.

Questions raised by residents were;

·        Anything planned for the Middlethorpe Grove area?

o       There will be visits to the businesses and possibly the Police van giving crime prevention advice.

4.      Askham Bar Park & Ride New Site

Paul Thackray, Damon Copperthwaite & Tony Clarke were present to explain about the proposed plans.

Paul gave a brief outline of the site (known as Sim Hills);

·     The Access York Phase 1 development includes 3 new Park & Ride sites.

·     The land for the new one to replace Askham Bar was formerly a waste disposal site.

·     The present Site holds 550 cars and the new site will hold 1250 cars.

·     We will also be looking at the pedestrian and cycle facilities for the site.

·     As the site is on a hill then we will be looking very carefully at drainage and landscaping.

·     Aiming to obtain gold standard car parking security.

·     The main reception building will hopefully be a landmark building.

·     The next step is to start formal consultation at the end of November.

·     It should not affect the existing traffic as most of the work is of the highway.

Residents raised the following;

·        What is the timeframe?

o       Hopefully the construction would start early in 2010 and would take 12 months

·        Was this a council tip?

o       Yes it is a former landfill site and gas monitoring is taking place.

·        Will this become an overflow car park for the college?

o       No as it will be a token system to park and the token has to be validated on the bus.

·        Any thoughts to what will happen to the existing car park?

o       No decision has been made on this yet.

·        Will the frequency of the bus service increase if more people are using the car park?

o       Yes we are hoping that this will increase to 6 or 7 on the route at one time.

·        At the moment people walk and cycle to use the Park & Ride, will this still be possible?

o       This is being looked at.

·        Local residents should remember that this is a Park & Ride site and not a local bus service.

·        The numbers 12 & 13 bus services go past Moor Lane at virtually the same time so can we change the frequency of them?

o       This is something we can ask First

·        Is the existing site big enough for a community stadium?!

·        The buses do not use the bus lane in the college.

·        There will be a clear lighting need, cctv and landscaping at a low level.

o       Landscaping within the perimeter will be low level to enable security.
