Minutes: The Cabinet Member considered a report which proposed number and locations of bins to be removed and or replaced and the options for their replacements. The report asked for a decision to be made on the number of bins to be removed and a reduction in the options for replacements.
Officers outlined the report, in particular the following points:
· Many existing bins in the city centre footstreets and adjoining areas are in need of replacement. · Reducing the number of bins and standardising the style of bins down to two which would then be used within the Reinvigorate York Design Manual. · No increase of litter was noted after the removal of six standard bins during a trial of a solar powered compactor bin in Kings Square. · Consultation had been carried out and a mixture of views had been reported.
The Cabinet Member commented that he had a preference for the bin shown at annex 3 to the report and that he was happy to approve Option 2 as per the Officers recommendation.
