Environment Market

Meet your Ward Councillors, Street Environment Officer. Safer Neighbourhood Team, Environmental Protection Unit and Neighbourhood Management Officer.

Minutes:

Residents had the opportunity to, informally, discuss issues with the Ward Councillors, Street Environment Officers, Safer Neighbourhood Team, Environment Protection Officers, and Neighbourhood Management Officers.

 

Cllr Steve Galloway welcomed everyone to the meeting

 

The minutes of the last formal meeting were agreed and signed.

 

Ward Schemes

 

It was explained that the ballot papers for the schemes are divided into three different ballots (three areas within the ward) to ensure that the funding is distributed throughout the ward.

 

The ward budget is approx. £50,000

 

This years Schemes

 

An update was given on the ward budget for this year and some of the schemes which have been undertaken, including:

 

  • Enhancing Front Street through plants and flowers at a cost of £588
  • Reducing waste across the ward, 17th July saw two trucks following a route through the ward and collecting 3.1 tons of landfill and 0.08 tons of cardboard at a cost of £1,500.
  • Provision of a dog bin for the Foxwood Lane/ Askham Lane roundabout, including three years maintenance and emptying, at a cost of £780
  • A grant to Street Sport to provide 18 hours of sporting activity of £2,100
  • A grant to the Friends of Acomb Green to provide some improvements to the Green and stage a Summer Fete of £1,140
  • Provide Community Ranger Patrols covering 14 priority areas, to include two patrols every evening, at a cost of £4,500.

 

Safer Neighbourhood Team update

 

The number of shed burglaries has increased with two arrests recently made.

 

Operation Easel is ongoing to target anti social behaviour hotspots.

 

There is to be an Action Day on 1st October when partner agencies will be working together to address issues e.g. Street Environment and Young People’s Services.

 

The issue of riding bicycles on footpaths is increasing with Blossom Street being a particular hotspot.  PS Lindsey Stamp will pass the information to the relevant Officer.

 

 

 

Any Other Business

 

The Friends of Acomb Green are hoping to stage Carol Singing around a Christmas Tree on the Green, more information will be available nearer Christmas.
