Drop in Surgery 7.00pm

The drop-in surgery gives you the opportunity to talk with your Councillors, Street Environment Officer, Safer Neighbourhood Police Team, Neighbourhood Management Officer and visiting speakers in an informal setting.

Minutes:

1.1 Residents had the opportunity to speak with Ward Councillors Kirk and Wiseman as well as Ian Dunn – Street Environment Officer, James Nicholson – Neighbourhood Management Officer, Dawn Clarkson from Trading Standards and Bob Towner from the Older People’s Assembley.

Main Meeting 7.30pm - Welcome and Minutes

The minutes of the previous meeting will be signed and there will be an update on any action points.

Minutes:

2.1 Residents were welcomed to the meeting and guest speakers and council officers were introduced formally.

 

2.2 The minutes from the meeting held on 21st October 2010 were agreed by the floor and signed by the chair.

3.

Safer Neighbourhood Police Team

The safer neighbourhood team will give an update on police operations in the area and answer any questions you have.

Minutes:

3.1 A statement was read out on behalf of PC Alex Dobson by Cllr Siân Wiseman.

 

3.2 Residents were informed of crime figures for the ward, overall crime being down by 12.7% including reductions in burglary, criminal damage and theft.

 

3.3 The report outlined the latest operations that are happening in the ward including Operation Caboose which deals with anti-social behaviour and Operation Spoke which is a bike marking service to help with cycle crime.

 

3.4 Finally the report outlined some changes to the Policing structure in the ward, notifying residents that the new Inspector for the ward is Inspector 659 Brooksbank.

Trading Standards - Cold Calling Zones

Minutes:

4.1 Dawn Clarkson from Trading Standards gave information and answered questions on Cold Calling Controlled Zones, The Home Service Directory and the Telephone and Mail preference services.

 

4.2     Residents were advised how to apply for a cold calling control zone, what this would do for the area and advice on how to handle cold call situations.

 

4.3     Residents were informed of the Home Service Directory, a directory that has a list of vetted traders and how to request a Home Service Directory by contacting Trading Standards.

 

4.4     Residents were also advised of the telephone preference service and the mail preference service which can help reduce cold tele-calling and ‘junk mail’ that is delivered using the royal mail.

York Older Peoples Assembly

Bob Towner will explain what the York Older People’s Assembly are doing and how you can get involved.

Minutes:

5.1 Bob Towner form the Older Peoples Assembly (OPAY) discussed the work they do for 50+ residents of York.

 

5.2 Residents were informed of the work they do to help raise issues and concerns to bodies such as the Police, Council and Government.

 

5.3 Mr Towner gave examples of the successful campaigns that have York Older Peoples Assembly have been central to, such as the saving of post offices, increase in pensions, and the abolition of the statutory retirement rate.

 

5.4 The residents were given examples of consultation work that have been done recently including issues such as residential care.

 

5.5 Examples were also given of surveys that they do including regular liaison group that operate out of York hospital.

 

5.6 Information was given on the open bi-monthly meetings that the OPAY have and invited residents to get involved.

 

5.7 Residents were informed of the newsletter that can be found in libraries, public outlets and in sheltered housing accomodation.  

 

5.8 Finally residents were informed of the York 50+ festival which last time attracted over 6000 people.

Local Improvement Schemes

The list of proposed Local Improvement Schemes will be discussed. This is your chance to influence the decision on how the budget for 2011/12 will be spent.

Minutes:

6.1 Siân Wiseman introduced the Local Improvements Scheme item giving residents the opportunity to have their say about any of the schemes.

 

6.2 The voting balance that is issued in the Your Ward was explained to residents along with a further explanation of how a scheme makes the list.

 

6.3 Residents were advised that this is a provisional list and will not be confirmed until after the budget is decided.

 

6.4 Residents asked if there could be any scheme put in place to prevent and tackle dog fouling. The residents were advised that the possibility of a dual scheme with a neighbouring ward may be an option.
