Strensall WCM Minutes

Minutes:

The Strensall Ward Committee Meeting was an informal event held at Hurst Hall on the Army Barracks, Strensall.

The format of the meeting was outdoor activities, ran and supervised by Global, for children and young people to enjoy from 17.30 and an opportunity to meet the Ward Team including councillors from 18:30.

Including the young people in attendance there were approximately 30 people who attended the meeting.

Residents had the opportunity to speak with Councillors Siân Wiseman, and Madeleine Kirk. They also had the chance to raise any Street Environment issues with Street Environment Officer Iain Dunn. The Neighbourhood Management Unit were on hand to discuss any issues as well as deliver consultation, and for most people was the first opportunity to meet new Neighbourhood Management Officer for the ward, James Nicholson. There was an opportunity as requested to meet with Planning and Sustainable Development Advisor, Karen Streeton who took some of the residents through the online planning application service. Jennie Noble from the York Young People’s Service was there along with the Urbie Van. Lynette Nelson was providing refreshments as well as discussing the work she does with the Army Welfare Service.

Included in the Residents at the meeting where Members of the Wards Parish Councils.

Sue Nunn from Strensall Parish Council wanted to outline the great service provided by the Refuse Collectors in the ward pointing out how caring they are for her Blind Neighbours.

When speaking with various members of the Strensall Parish Council a frequent discussion point was the Durlston Drive site, once the Strensall and Towthorpe Sports Association, with ambitions to change into a rejuvenated community group that has been outlined by the Parish Council as a priority for Strensall’s young people.

I also spoke with a member of the Earswick Parish Council about the work they have been doing recently in the area, echoing the incentive shown by Strensall Parish Council to make Earswick a good place to live for Young People.
