The drop-in surgery gives you the opportunity to talk to your councillors, street environment officer, safer neighbourhood team, neighbourhood management officer and visiting speakers informally. 

1.1        Residents had the opportunity to talk to Councillors John Galvin and Christian Vassie, Claire Taylor and Jackie Jackson (Neighbourhood Management Unit), Suzanne Prance (Street Environment Service), Jacqui Warren (Sustainable Development Unit) and PC Anna Daniels (North Yorkshire Police). 

1.2        Residents had the opportunity to be involved in the Neighbourhood Action Plans and One City consultations.

2.1    Councillor John Galvin welcomed residents to the meeting.

2.2    The minutes of the last meeting on 11^th May were agreed and signed.

An update from your ward police team and your chance to raise any issues. 

PC Anna Daniels gave an update on Crime and Community Safety issues in the ward.  The following points were noted:

3.1       Crime is down in Wheldrake by 50% with 19 crimes this year to date compared to 38 last year. 

3.2       Crime is down is Bishopthorpe by 50% with 21 crimes this year to date compared to 42 last year. 

3.3       The police priorities as identified by residents remain as Anti-social behaviour, drugs and speeding. 

3.4       Anti-social behaviour is down across all areas of the ward.

3.5       Residents are encouraged to continue to filling in ‘95 alive forms’ to report concerns about speeding.  This helps the team to build up a picture of the problem areas.

Representatives from the Planning and Sustainable Development department will outline the City and partners ambitions to reduce carbon emissions to 40% by 2020 and how you can be involved in this.

Jacqui Warren from the Sustainable Development Unit gave a presentation on the draft Climate Change framework and Action Plan for York.  The following points were noted:

4.1        The Climate Change framework and Action Plan outlines the councils commitment to tackling climate change and a long term focus for doing this.

4.2        The action plan is a three year plan which celebrates the good things the city is already doing and outlines further actions needed to achieve a 40% reduction in carbon emissions by 2020 and 80% reduction by 2050.  The plan will be reviewed every five years. 

4.3        The plan aims to create sustainable homes, buildings, energy, waste, transport, economy, planning, lifestyles and partnerships as well a preparing York for the impact of future climate change.

4.4        The consultation on the framework and action plan is running from July to September 2010 with the document being finalised in October 2010.  Residents can view the document on City of York councils website.

The Neighbourhood Management Team will be at the meeting to get your ideas and suggestions about your ward, our service and our partners’ services. 

5.1          Jackie Jackson from the Neighbourhood Management Unit gave a presentation on the draft One City Strategy.  The aim of the strategy is to guide organisations in making sure that all residents are given opportunities to be involved in shaping York’s future (Participation), making sure that we provide the right services for all communities and ensure all residents are treated fairly (Fairness and Inclusion) and ensuring there are good community relations between communities (Community Cohesion).

5.2          Following the presentation, residents took part in an interactive voting session to answer questions about current participation, fairness and inclusion and community cohesion in York.  The results of this will inform the final draft of the strategy.

5.3          The strategy will be available on City of York councils website once it is finalised.

The following questions and comments were noted:

a)  Given the squeeze on public spending, will the ward committees and their funding be cut?

Response was given that this is highly unlikely.

b)  When is the street lighting on Ferry Lane likely to be installed?

Response was given that one lamp head was being attached to an existing pole
