Welcome & Introduction

Minutes:

Cllr Potter welcomed everyone to the meeting, introduced the attendees and explained how the event would work. The event was an informal afternoon where the older residents of the ward could find out more about what facilities and services are on offer specifically for them in Heworth ward and across the city. The afternoon would finish off with cream teas and bingo.

Older People's Ward Committee Event

Minutes:

A number of groups and organisations attended the meeting to give advice and information to residents:

 

·        Dawn Clarkson from Trading Standards attended to inform residents about the Cold Calling initiative to deter doorstep cold calling and the Home Services Directory that includes details of traders that are registered and approved services by the council.

·        Craig Malloy from Future Prospects attended to inform residents about Adult Learning opportunities in York.

·        Russell Trewartha, Project Officer – CYC and Marie Lodge from Tees Valley Housing Association attended to update residents on the progress of the Discus Bungalows Regeneration Project.

·        Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust provided a display and information leaflets regarding the Derwenthorpe development.

·        Kevin Butler and Trish Matthews from Citizens’ Advice Bureau attended to give advice on benefit take up and debt management.

·        Don Parlebean, Tony Martin and Keith Chapman attended from York Older People’s Assembly to inform residents about the organisation and advise how residents can get involved.

·        Sally Hutchinson from Age Concern attended to inform residents about the services they can offer to older people.

·        Anna Walters and Sam Howard from York & Selby Primary Care Trust attended to give advice to residents on falls prevention.

·        Angie Hampton held a chairobics session for residents.

·        George Bennett from York Lions attended to inform residents about their Message in a Bottle scheme which offers the opportunity for residents to keep vital medical information stored in a highly visible jar in the fridge so that emergency services can quickly gain access to this information.

·        Debbie Gore from York Fire & Rescue Service attended to give advice on home safety.

·        Janet Hopton from York Heritage attended to get views on whether residents feel that York should be a Heritage site.

·        Angus Young, Street Environment Officer attended to give advice and take note of any environmental issues or concerns.

·        Roisheen Childs from Older Citizens’ Advocacy York to inform residents about the organisation and advise how residents can get involved.

·        PCSO Simon Hall attended to give community safety advice and take not of any issues or concerns.

·        Simon Wing ???? from York Dial-a-Ride attended to inform residents about the service.

·        ????? from York Wheels attended to inform residents about the service.

 

The afternoon was finished off with cream teas and a bingo session.
