Around the Ward

Look out for the Mobile Police Unit at the following places in the ward. On the unit your Councillors, Street Environment officer, Neighbourhood Management Officer and Safer Neighbourhood Team will be available for you to talk to about any local issues.

Minutes:

This was an informal meeting which involved holding a ward committee surgery at three locations in the ward: off Wigginton Terrace, Clifton Green and Burton Stone Community Centre. Councillors, council officers and the Safer Neighbourhoods Team travelled in a mini-bus and the mobile police unit, and stopped for between 30 minutes and an hour at each of the locations mentioned above, giving residents and passers-by the opportunity to raise any issues of concern to them. Residents also had the opportunity to find out about the Local Development Framework (LDF).

Among the issues raised by residents were grass-cutting on Westminster Road, trimming the trees on Burton Stone Lane, parking at St Joseph’s Church on Crichton Avenue and the ongoing traffic problems on Water Lane and Clifton Green. Residents pointed out that the increased traffic on Westminster Road and The Avenue is a safety issue, and suggested that it be addressed by road closure or preventing motorists from turning right/left into the area. Residents also suggested that there be greater cooperation between various council departments, e.g. between Transport Planning and the Cycling City project.
