Decision details

Future Operation of Bus Route 21

Decision Maker: Decision Session - Executive Member for City Strategy

Decision status: Decision Made

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

Purpose of report: Following on from reports to the 2/6/09 and 1/9/09 meetings concerning the provision of public transport to Temple Lane, Copmanthorpe. The meeting of September 2009 determined that a six month route change be trialled to accommodate Temple Lane. Depending on the the Member decision, residents of Temple Lane and also residents of other villages served by bus Service 21 would be affected by some of the options which will be presented to the Executive Member at this meeting.

Members are asked to: Approve one of three options, two of which would involve changes to the existing subsidised service.

Decision:

RESOLVED:             That the Executive Member agrees to:

i)        Route 21 being restored to its former routeing but operating to the revised timetable shown in Annex C, of the report, with effect from 31 August  2010.

ii)            Affected residents being advised of the decision and  the alternative transport options that are available to them.

REASON:                  The diversion to serve Temple Lane is unpopular with the majority of passengers and is of little benefit as usage from this area has been and continues to be far below that necessary to justify the additional costs borne by the Council. Adoption of the recommendation will meet the demands and requirements of the majority of users whilst providing a substantial saving in Council funding.
