Decarbonisation Plans

Decision Maker: Executive Member for Environment and Climate Change

Decision status: Decision Made

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

Purpose of Report: Request Executive approval for the allocation of £50,000 from the Carbon Reduction Scheme budget to deliver Decarbonisation Plans for council corporate buildings.

Decarbonisation plans will demonstrate the potential carbon and cost savings that can be achieved across the council estate and quantify the required level of investment to meet net zero. The plans provide the evidence base to access funding from the central government Public Sector Decarbonisation Fund to finance future capital works.

Decision:

Resolved:  That the use of £50,000 from the Climate Change Scheme Fund to cover the creation of decarbonisation plans for 5 to 10 of the council’s corporate buildings, be approved.

Reason: Decarbonisation plans for our corporate buildings present an opportunity to reduce the council’s carbon emissions and reduce energy bills while providing the basis for external grant funding, minimising the cost of capital works to the council. The Climate Change Scheme Fund was established to support carbon reduction initiatives.
