Purpose:

Purpose of Report: To update the Cabinet Member about the progress of Yorproperty, the voluntary accreditation scheme since introduction in December 2013.

The Cabinet Member is asked to consider the next steps to ensure that standards continue to be improved in the private rented sector.

The Cabinet Member is also asked to acknowledge the success of the scheme to date and to consider and agree the next steps.

Decision:

Resolved:   That Option 2 as detailed below be approved;

 

                  That, in addition to the elements contained in option (i), the council examines other options to improve standards within the private rented sector, including undertaking a wide ranging consultation exercise taking account of the views of the wider community in addition to tenants and stakeholders in the sector.

 

Reason:     To ensure the expansion of the accreditation scheme and to use positive aspects of the scheme to add value to the work of improving the private rented sector in York, whilst giving it a longer period to meet targets and to gather further qualitative data regarding the sector to inform future initiatives.
