Decision Maker: Decision Session - Cabinet Leader and Economic Development, Cabinet Leader & Economic Development
Decision status: Decision Made
Is Key decision?: No
Is subject to call in?: Yes
Purpose:
Purpose of Report: To seek approval to pay the Living Wage to casual staff from 1 December 2013 to March 2014.
The Cabinet Leader is asked to consider and approve the above
proposal.
An early decision is needed to ensure timely pay and minimise backdating. It is considered that February Cabinet is too far ahead and it will also ensure synergy with City of York Trading Ltd activity.
Decision:
Resolved: That the payment of the Living Wage for all casual work at the minimum rate of £7.45 per hour from 1 December 2013 to end of March 2014 be approved.
Reason: To continue to deliver the council’s commitment to address low pay, tackle in-work poverty and as a step towards reducing income inequality which, with the support of other employers in York, will deliver benefits to the whole community.
