Decision details

Joseph Rowntree Secondary School - Zebra Crossing and Off-road Cycle Links

Decision Maker: Executive Member for Transport and Planning

Decision status: Decision Made

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

Purpose of the Report: Walking and cycling facilities in the vicinity of Joseph Rowntree Secondary School have been reviewed, and pupils who live south of the school were found to have fewer facilities directly on their route to school. This report puts forward a highway improvement scheme to provide a raised zebra crossing on the pedestrian desire line, and to give less confident cyclists an off-road alternative on this section of busy narrow road. It also summarises the consultation with interested parties in order to recommend a way forward.

The Cabinet Member will be asked to approve the implementation of the proposals, and approve the advertising of the extension to the existing 20mph speed limit order.

Decision:

RESOLVED:       That the Cabinet Member approved in principle  the implementation of the proposed highway improvements shown in Annex B, subject to the advertising of the speed limit order.  Any objections to the order to be brought back to an Officer in Consultation meeting for a decision on the way forward.  If there are no objections, approval is granted to implement the scheme.

REASON:           To improve conditions for pedestrians and cyclists who live sought of the school.
