Purpose:

Purpose of Report: This report concerns the future of two marble sculptures purchased by the council in the 1940s: Young Centaur (tempted by love) and Old Centaur (bound by love), both probably carved by Bartolomeo Cavaceppi in around 1755.

The Executive will be asked to consider options related to the two centaurs.

Decision:

Resolved:  That approval be given to accession the two Centaurs sculptures into the council’s museum collection (Option 1).

 

Reason:     In order to resolve the issue of ownership of the sculptures and ensure that they can be put on public display for the benefit of York residents.
