Purpose:

Purpose of Report: To provide an update on air quality in the city and progress made with implementation of Air Quality Action Plan 3 (AQAP3), following the submission of the Annual Status Report (ASR) to DEFRA. The report is provided for information only.

From June 2016, Government is introducing an ASR for local authorities in England. The key functions of the ASR are to provide a public-facing summary of the local air quality situation and the main air quality improvement measures being taken. The ASR also includes a technical report with more detailed information as well as monitoring/modelling of key pollutants.

The Executive Member is asked to note the contents of the report.

 

Decision:

Resolved: (i) That the report be noted.

 

(ii)That the progress which has been made on a switch   to low emission vehicles in the bus and taxi fleet and the positive impact that this will have in further improvements to the air quality in the city be noted.

 

                (iii) That Officers review proposals to ensure that the Council fully utilises all available legislation to exclude highly polluting vehicles regularly in the Air Quality Management Areas (AQMAs).

 

Reason:   To ensure that steps are taken to improve York’s air quality.
