Purpose:

Purpose of report: The report breifly outlines the background to 'smart' and 'integrated' public transport and specifically bus ticketing in York. The national, regional and local progress made toward introduction of a smart bus ticket is then considered as well as progress towards the introduction of an integrated bus ticket(s) for York. The report outliens the likelihood and estimated timescales for the introduction of both 'smart' and 'integrated' ticketing.

Members are asked to: Acknowledge the contents of the report, consider possible further action and support officers in their efforts to introduce smart and integrated public transport ticketing to the City of York.

Decision:

RESOLVED:          That the Executive Member for City Strategy notes the  contents of this report and:

i) Supports the continuation of work to support the introduction of both integrated and smart ticketing for bus passengers in York and specifically through work being undertaken as part of the Yorcard scheme.

ii)                  Agrees to surveys being conducted to identify the demand for a multi-operator bus ticket alongside a citizens’ panel survey.

REASON:      Both integrated and smart ticketing will encourage greater bus use and will make bus travel more affordable.
