Minutes:
Fishergate Ward Committee hosted an informal
event in the style of an extended surgery outside Danesgate Skills
Centre. Residents were able to:
- Speak directly to their local
councillors and representatives from the Neighbourhood Management
Unit.
- Hear about the Local Development
Framework (LDF) proposals for future expansions and developments
within York, and have their questions answered.
- Get advice on saving energy in their
homes with the Energy Saving Trust.
- Talk to members of the Fishergate
Safer Neighbourhoods Policing Team.
- Speak with the Street Environment
Officer for Fishergate Ward.
- Receive advice on composting and a
free compost bin from York Rotters.
- Take home a free bird box or bat
box, along with advice on where they should be located and how to
encourage their use.
- Scale the seven metre mobile
climbing wall, with guidance from York Council’s Community
Climbing Instructor.
- Be taken on a guided tour of Fulford
Cross by a member of the ‘Friends Of’ group.
- Learn about Roman cookery, sampling
some of their stews and breads , all cooked on site in a
traditional brick oven, as well as Roman hairdressing and some
object handling.
- Submit suggestions for Local
Improvement Schemes to be funded from the 2010/11 Fishergate Ward
Committee Budget.
- Participate in the Freecycle swap
shop. Residents brought their old books, games, electronics etc. to
the event and took home something else.
