Ward Surgery

Minutes:

This was an opportunity for residents to talk to their ward councillors, Police and to report any street environment or any other ward-based issues.

Police

Minutes:

PC Mark Antonelli gave an update on issues in the ward and reported that crime was down within the ward.        

Residents raised the following questions and concerns;

·        Are the Police being overwhelmed with too much paperwork?

·        In Woodthorpe, the criminals are escaping through an alley at Lomond Ginnel, can this be gated?

·        The end of the cycle lane at St Georges on Tadcaster Road does not have a drop kerb.  The sign on the path needs changing or looking at.

·        There have been lighters found in Acomb Wood and evidence of Substance abuse.

·        Can there be more surveillance of Hob Moor?

Recycling

Minutes:

Erin Gardner gave an update of recycling in York and especially the recycling facilities in Dringhouses & Woodthorpe.

  • Up to 40% of the population are now recycling in the City of York Council
  • There are now new banks at Tesco’s for carton recycling.
  • There will be Foil banks at Tesco’s in the next few weeks.
  • By 2010 we must have 2 collections of recycling at all the properties in the City.

Residents raised the following;

·        Will residents get an opportunity to inform the Council on what they prefer?  A) There aims to be a public consultation on the way that recycling is collected

·        What can we do with old clothing?  A)  There is a textile bank on Tadcaster Road.

·        When landfill is full then what will happen?

·        What is the Council doing to target the producers/manufacturers of waste?  A)  The Council have signed up to the less packaging commitment.

·        Can the Council reduce the price of water butts?  A)  These are already offered at the cost price.

Local Development Framework

Minutes:

Within the ward newsletter there is a questionnaire asking for your viewing on how to shape and plan the city for the next 20 years.  This will all be fed in to the big developments that are to take place in the city and shape the way it looks.

Residents asked;

·     Is the Fire Station going to stay in the City Centre?

·     How are you proposing  to record the comments and explain the results?  A)  This will be in the Revised Local Development Core Strategy which will be available in 2008.

·     York needs a central bus station.

·     Are we going to have consultation on the types of houses built?  A) We have to produce a Housing Market Assesment which will give the Council more teeth to be the lead developer.

We need more family housing and less of the yuppie flats

Schemes 2008/2009

Minutes:

Residents were asked if they had any questions on the schemes voting list in the newsletter for the 2008/2009 budget.

·        What is the difference between the ‘Chill Out Zone’ & MOLYS?

·        Nelsons Lane play area is not being opened.

·        When is Woodthorpe Green supposed to be locked at night?

·        York and District Sports Federation thanked the Ward Committee for the grant received and are pleased to announce that 2 local sports people have benefited from the scheme.

Have Your Say

Minutes:

·        There is a lot of graffiti in the bus shelter in Old Moor Lane.

·        When is the resurfacing of Brambledene & Windermere going to be complete?  A) Cllr Reid to follow up

·        Where are the litter bins near the college? A)  They have been ordered.

·        Can the Council control the numbers that attend the Caravan show on the Knavesmire? A) There is a traffic plan in place every year but we cannot control the numbers who attend.

·        Why are normal buses being used on the ftr route sometimes?

·        There are potholes in Hunters Way that need repairing.

·        When will the hedging & trees be put in at the new roundabout?  A)  These will be planted at the end of construction.

·        What is being done about the parking issues at the college? A) Cllr Holvey is working with the college on this.
