To consider the establishment of a Local Area Energy Plan for York.

Additional documents:

Decision:

Resolved: That the allocation of £90,000 from the 2021/22 Carbon Reduction Budget and £20,000 from 2022/23 budget to carry out a Local Area Energy Plan for York, be approved.

Reason: A Local Area Energy Plan is an important component of York’s net zero carbon transition. As well as reducing emissions, the project is expected to deliver future cost savings, deferred investment and value for money to the council; ensuring that future infrastructure is located appropriately, technologies are future proofed and investment is strategically targeted.

Minutes:

The Executive Member considered a report that highlighted the establishment of a Local Area Energy Plan (LAEP) for York.

The Assistant Director of Policy and Strategy informed the Executive Member that producing a LAEP for York would be an important part of a wider North Yorkshire energy plan and delivering York’s LAEP alongside the North Yorkshire plan would provide an efficiency and cost saving to the council of £25k to £35k.

The Executive Member noted that a LAEP for York would reduce emissions, deliver future cost savings and ensure future infrastructure was located appropriately.
