This report seeks approval to sign the Local Government Declaration on Healthy Weight, signalling the council’s intention to work towards improving the local food and physical activity environment.

Decision:

Resolved: That the Executive Member forChildren, Young People and Education and Executive Member for Health and Adult Social Care note the  City of York Council’s Local Government Declaration on Healthy Weight, signed today by both of them and the Director of Public Health.

 

Reason:     In order to signal the Council’s intention to work towards improving the local food and physical activity environment.

Minutes:

The Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education considered a report on the Local Government Declaration on Healthy Weight in consultation with the Executive Member for Health & Adult Social Care.

 

The Specialty Registrar in Public Health and Director of Public Health were in attendance to present the report. The Specialty Registrar in Public Health explained that the Local Government Declaration on Healthy Weight was created by the charity FoodActive in 2016 and had been signed by 20 Local Authorities, as well as by some CCGs and hospital trusts. The proposed City of York Council Declaration for York was included at Annex A and the roadmap of actions after signing the Declaration was included at Annex B.

 

The Specialty Registrar in Public Health gave a detailed explanation of the Declaration and roadmap noting that should it be approved, it would be added onto the Council Plan and would be measured and reported on. The Director of Public Health highlighted that the Declaration related to healthy weight.

 

The Executive Member for Health & Adult Social Care commented that she was pleased to see the work that had already been undertaken and Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education noted the benefits of maintaining healthy weight.

Resolved: That the Executive Member forChildren, Young People and Education and Executive Member for Health and Adult Social Care note the  City of York Council’s Local Government Declaration on Healthy Weight, signed today by both of them and the Director of Public Health.
