This report seeks approval for the council’s Food Service Plan for 2019-2020, in compliance with the requirements of the Food Law Code of Practice.

Resolved: That the food service plan be approved.

 

Reason:  This will ensure that the Council has a plan to fulfil its obligations under the Food Law Code of Practice.

Minutes:

The Executive Member considered a report that sought approval for the council’s food service plan for 2019-2020, in compliance with the requirements of the Food Law Code of Practice.

 

The Assistant Director of Planning and Public Protection informed the Executive Member that the council was required to produce an annual food service plan to satisfy the statutory requirements within the Food Law Code of Practice, which was overseen by the Food Standards Agency (FSA).

 

The Public Protection Manager stated that the service plan also reviewed last year’s performance and he confirmed that every premises due an intervention in 2018/19 had been inspected, apart from one which was closed, on each occasion it was visited. He highlighted the statistics arising from these interventions, where it was noted that:

·        93% of businesses in York were broadly compliant with food hygiene law.

·        65% of food businesses in York had a food hygiene rating score of 5 out of 5.

·        17 food hygiene prosecutions took place and a number of written warnings were also issued.

 

Officers answered the Executive Members question regarding food allergies and she thanked them for their report.
