Decision:

At the Executive Member Decision Session for Culture, Leisure and Communities on 21 October 2019 (link below), the £250k play area capital budget was allocated to two projects.
•Project 1 - £150k for improvements based on an independent survey of City Council and Parish Council play areas to establish a needs based investment programme
•Project 2 - £100k fund that the community could bid to.
Due to Covid restrictions Project 1 was put on hold; Project 2 was launched in February this year. Applications for Project 2 were three times oversubscribed, with 30 applications spread across 15 wards. Following site visits with applicants 26 schemes meet Project 2 objectives. Where there is more than one application in a ward, the applications are for different locations and serve different communities.
Decision has been agreed as follows:
1.Not to implement Project 1.
2.To reallocate £75k to Project 2 – community fund.
3.To include within Project 2 - four Parish Council / community schemes which asked to be included in Project 1.
4.To approve the allocation of Project 2 funding as set out in Annex 1 (attached at end of decision sheet), with applicants receiving a 59% contribution.
5.To reallocate the remaining £75k to City Council play areas improvements focusing on safety surfacing.

Options Considered:

Option 2 - Reject the proposal as outlined above.
