Background

IYF established in 2004/5 to support the Inclusive City theme of the Community Strategy; its role is to:

§  Monitor / review progress towards achieving the Inclusive City aims set out in the Community Strategy

§  To champion issues of inclusiveness across all the themes of the Community Strategy

§  Serve as the consultative body regarding social inclusion for the Without Walls partnership (WoW)

§  Promote the active engagement of communities of interest in WoW activities

§  Assist in delivering the inclusive city agenda

§  Contribute new ideas to be considered by the partnership and highlight issues of concern

The Chair of IYF is Angela Portz, Chief Executive of York Council for Voluntary Service (CVS);  the IYF representative on WoW is Rita Sanderson, Director of York Racial Equality Network (YREN). Other members of IYF are drawn primarily from York’s voluntary and community sector – both individual organisations and other forums  – with the aim that all of York’s different communities of interest are represented.  In addition secretariat support is provided by the Neighbourhood Management Unit; other CYC officers on the group are the Equalities Officer, Head of Housing Services and Head of the Neighbourhood Management Team.

Brief outline of what is required of the City of York Council rep:

To actively participate in IYF meetings and to respond to consultations / other requests for input as appropriate.

To help to fulfil the roles of IYF as outlined above through liaison / linkages with other Council bodies or partnerships as appropriate e.g. to help with liaison between IYF and the Equality Advisory Group.

Meetings:

Meetings are held quarterly lasting between 2-2.5 hours with preparation time. Meetings are usually held at the Priory Street Centre.

Training & Support:

Chair and secretariat will meet with new representatives to give briefings/support as necessary.

Conditions:

The role is ideally taken by the Cabinet Member and Shadow portfolio holders for Youth & Social Inclusion. 

Substitutes are allowed but have not been officially recognised or appointed
