Cycle Path for Wigginton to the Ring Road

We the undersigned petition the council to install a Cycle Path between Wigginton (Mill Lane Junction) and the York Ring Road along Wigginton Road (B1363)

The B1363 (Wigginton Road) is a very fast single carriageway road (60 mph) with no path on either side and makes a cycle journey down it dangerous. Most villagers in Wigginton would avoid it as it is an unsafe route and cycle via the neighbouring village of Haxby and down the York Road from there adding up to a mile and to a journey to Clifton Moor Everlast Gym (Roko).

The Wigginton road is the only direct method of access to Wigginton from York.

In the past the Railway crossing barriers have failed at York Road Haxby and been closed for hours and it can mean that there is no safe route for pupils returning from Joseph Rowntree school to their homes if York Road is closed and I have known of children cycling up Wigginton Road in that circumstance, therefore I feel a Cyclepath to Wigginton is needed.

There are a number of National Cycle Routes nearby and it fills me with dread when I see cyclists try to reach York along Wigginton Road.

With proposed housing schemes at Clifton Gate/Clifton Moor New Village (estimated 1300 + properties) initially to be accessed via Wigginton Road until the Ring Road is altered and the proposed development of 700+ houses to the north of Haxby/Wigginton off Moor Lane in Haxby and Windsor Drive Wigginton there will be many people encouraged to cycle to work and Clifton Moor is a large employment area in itself.

This improvement to the cycle network of York would fit well with the i-Travel scheme that has been developed.
