Agenda and minutes

1.0       Cllr Ian Gillies welcomed everyone to the meeting.

1.1       Colin Richardson from York Gliding Club presented the following information about the club.

·        The Club will celebrate its 50^th anniversary in September 2011;

·        The Club has links with local community, in particular Rufforth Parish Council and Rufforth Primary School. Discounts are offered for young people to encourage them to try  gliding;

·        The Club has 240 members countrywide and 20 instructors;

·        There is a caravan site next to the club available for members;

·        All age groups are welcome to the Club. The only age limit in gliding is that you must be 16 to fly solo;

·        Two seat gliders are used for training. Training is carried out in accordance with the British Association Syllabus;

·        The duration of a gliding flight may take up to 5-6 hours dependant upon the weather conditions;

·        Gliders in Rufforth benefit from natural thermal activity, sea breeze and ‘wave’.

1.2       Sgt Andy Haigh gave brief update on Police activity in the ward.

·        Crime and ASB statistics for this year are similar to  last years figures;

·        The new Police Constable Sarah Elliott joined the team on 4 July 2011;

·        ASB in Copmanthorpe has reduced thanks to additional resources, letters sent out children in the area and an article which was published in the local media.

·        A few commercial burglaries taken place recently.

1.3       Street Environment Officer, Rachel Stewart asked for any relevant issues, ideas or suggestions.

1.4       Fire and Rescue Service – Cecil Pugh gave brief update on Fire and Rescue activity in the ward.

·        Fire and Rescue is committed to working with the community and vulnerable people;

·        Free smoke alarms and home fire safety checks are continuously offered by Fire and Rescue services. 

1.5    Neighbourhood Management Officer, Julie Hood asked for ideas and suggestions for local improvement schemes.

At this point Cllr Gillies thanked all the officers for their commitment.

Cllr Steward introduced himself to the meeting.

The minutes from the last meeting were agreed as the true record.

Residents had the opportunity to speak with Ward Councillors, Neighbourhood Management Officer, Street Environment Officer, Fire and Rescue representative, Safer Neighbourhood Team in an informal setting.

Burgers, prepared and served by Copmanthorpe Rangers were enjoyed by all.
