Embracing Diversity: A Hate Crime Strategy for York

Decision Maker: Executive

Decision status: Decision Made

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

Purpose of Report: The Hate Crime Strategy is a multi-agency strategy which, to be successful, requires the support of all key agencies who can contribute to it's delivery. It forms an important part of the CYC Equalities agenda and support of vulnerable communities within the Council Plan.

Members are asked to: agree the content of the Hate Crime Strategy and give the commitment of CYC to contributing to its delivery and development.

The report will now be considered in February to allow time to build in comments following the safer York Partnership meeting in December. At the request of Cabinet, this has now been deferred to the March meeting. This has now been deferred until April to allow more time for consultation.

Decision:

RESOLVED:       That Cabinet approve Option 1 to endorse the Hate Crime Strategy for York and give commitment to the key role that City of York Council will play in the implementation of the strategy and its associated work plans.

REASON:            To ensure that the city has an effective approach to preventing Hate Crime and addressing the impacts of Hate Crime in a coordinated and victim centred manner.
