The Executive Member was invited to declare at this point in the meeting any personal or prejudicial interests he might have in the business on the agenda.  None were declared.

To approve and sign the minutes of the Decision Session of the Executive Member for Corporate Services held on 20 July 2010.

Minutes:

RESOLVED:That the minutes of the Decision Session held on 20 July 2010 be approved and signed by the Executive Member as a correct record.

Public Participation

At this point in the meeting, members of the public who have registered their wish to speak at the meeting can do so.  The deadline for registering is 5.00 pm on Monday 20 September 2010. 

 

Members of the public may register to speak on:-

  • An item on the agenda
  • An issue within the Executive Member’s remit
  • An item that has been published on the Information Log since the last session.

Minutes:

It was reported that there were no registrations to speak under the council’s Public Participation Scheme.

Call for Evidence on the Data Protection Legislative Framework pdf icon PDF 66 KB

The Ministry of Justice has issued a Call for Evidence on current data protection law to help inform the UK’s position on negotiations for a new EU data protection instrument, which are expected to start in early 2011. This report presents a draft response to the Ministry of Justice “Call for Evidence” on current data protection law.

RESOLVED:That the draft response be approved subject to consideration being given to expand the response to question 12 to include a clause stating that “the deadline could be extended if this was agreed by both parties because of the complexity of the information requested”1.

 

REASON:      To ensure that the views of City of York Council are considered during the revision of the European Directive.

Minutes:

The Executive Member considered a report that presented a draft response to the Ministry of Justice “Call for Evidence” on current data protection law.  The Executive Member was asked to comment on the draft response (Annex A of the report) before it was finalised and sent to the Ministry of Justice.
