Review of Area Based Working Pilot pdf icon PDF 103 KB

This report describes the approach to and lessons learned from the Area Based Working Pilot undertaken in six wards to the west of the city from September 2010 to September 2011.  It also provides an update on the Capable Guardian Scheme.

Minutes:

Members considered a report that described the approach to and lessons learned from the Area Based Working Pilot undertaken in six wards to the west of the city from September 2010 to September 2011.  The report also provided an update on the Capable Guardian Scheme.

Members attention was drawn to paragraph 2 of the report which outlined a number of prepositions which the Area Based Working Pilot had tested.

Discussion took place around a number of issues:

·        In some Wards, Members reported that the pilot had made little difference, especially rural wards where Parish Councils hold regular meetings which the Police attend.

·        Members queried what the pilot was trying to achieve and whether Officers had any evidence that it had been successful. Examples were provided.

·        Members noted that the way in which the Area Based Working Pilot assisted would be different for each Ward.

·        The pilot was about a new approach to neighbourhood working and making the best use of resources.

In response to a request by Members, Officers confirmed that they would bring a report on the findings of the pilot back to the Committee after Cabinet on the 6th March.

RESOLVED:       That the report be noted.

REASON:           To update the committee on the Area Based Working Pilot and the Capable Guardian Scheme.
