Purpose:

Purpose of Report: The inaugural ‘Tour de Yorkshire’, a 2.1 UCI Europe Tour event, has been announced as taking place from the 1st – 3rd May 2015. York has been invited to play a significant part in the weekend, hosting not only a stage two finish but sprint circuits around the city and a women’s race.

This paper provides an overview of the ambition for the city, proposed delivery objectives, an operational plan and a budget outline.

Members are asked to approve York’s involvement in the Tour de Yorkshire.

Decision:

Resolved:  That subject to a minimum of £100k of the hosting fee for the Tour de Yorkshire event being met by regional support Cabinet agree to:

 

(i)           York hosting the day two events outlined in the report (women’s race, men’s race and finish);

(ii)          Ratify the outlined delivery objectives and operational plan;

(iii)        Delegate authority to the Chief Executive to enter into legal agreement with Welcome to Yorkshire to deliver the race in York.

Reason:     To achieve the outlined economic, cultural and community benefits for the city.
